Haleakalā, translated to "House of the Sun" is a sacred volcano and a National Park. Home to rare species such as the Nene goose and the Ahinahina or silver sword, Haleakalā draws a large number of tourists every day for its sunrise. Growing up on Maui, it was relatively easy to drive up to this beautiful place without a person in sight. Seeing now how much this has changed, I really took for granted those moments of silence and tranquility.
