Cyanea heluensis is a plant that was discovered by conservationists in 2010 and formally named in 2020. Its namesake comes from the mountain peak Helu from which it was discovered. I believe this plant is a symbol of hope that there’s more beauty to be discovered, by future generations of Maui. I also included native manu and a snail Perdicella ornata to accompany it. One of my hopes is these generations and future ones will be able to enjoy the beautiful songs of our native birds and other species that are facing extinction. Cyanea heluensis’s resilience symbolizes the hope of discovering beauty that was thought to be lost.
